So I'm sick of having to pay the stealer money to clear service codes so have decided to try the cheap out Vag Com deal. I know you get what you pay for but.... with a cheap eBay interface and a freeware copy of vag com can I loose service codes off the cluster like check brakes and service required notes and chimes? I don't use a WV shop for my basic servicing just had front discs, pads and fluid change and it was quoted about $400 more at WV service center than my local guy. I would use them for any motor work. Ive read all the Ross tech FAQ s and it does say erase codes but am unsure if that includes the above?... thanks

You can display all the DTC numbers and clear all faults, but the shareware only decodes a fraction of the DTCs into text.

If you've got a comprehensive manual, you'll be OK until you need to actually fix something (aim headlights, etc) but if not... you'll be asking for a lot of online help to decode DTCs.

Is the w8 classed as a "can bus" interface requiring car ?

missed your previous post... if anyone else is wondering, the W8 does not require can-bus.
