Well just bit the bullet and ordered two new levelling sensors, 65 gbp each. Will let you know how it goes.

Update?

Also, I came across this the other day. Is anyone familiar with this switch and are you able to level the lights with it?

If one or both your height sensors has failed the xenon's will automatically default to the lowest possible position. You will need to replace both front and rear sensors, clear the codes and reposition in group 1 of Vag-Com.

Did some research on this part. It looks like this part was used on some models (non W8) to control beam adjustment manually. Our cars are automatically adjusted thus the sensors on the front and rear and this part will not work (unless you are an electrical engineer). This part was also used on some models to adjust the rear fog light beam.

Sorry, forgot to update. Yes, replacing both sensors and recalibrating as per the rosstech instructions worked for me. Lights will now adjust and level when they're turned on.

There is one, it's on the driver's (left) side control arm.
