Stewart, where did you get your W8 chipped? Did you get it flashed or soldered in? Driving impressions before vs. after?

I'm not a Stewart (and I don't play one on TV), but I believe he got it done at an indie shop in Hudson, Wisconsin. He has mentioned before that it was flashed.

Near Hudson, WI?
I can highly recommend Bob at Midwest Motor Werks.
He chipped my car (GIAC pump, stock, race on handheld) and locked my Tip in sports mode.
Definitely hook up with us Passat owners in MSP.

From reading his posts on Passatworld, and in conversations with him, I'd say: before, very nice! after, very, VERY nice!

It does hold the 1st to 2nd shift a bit long in normal day to day driving (which does feel strange).
But the W8 cries out for spirited driving.
Supposedly the Tip incorporates "adaptive logic" so it should pick a mode more suitable to your driving style.
I like the Audi "S" mode more than the Buick "granny tranny" mode myself.
I have gotten used to sports mode and the chip.
When I got the car it went to 10. Now it goes to 11!

You can read the original posts in the thread here entitled: Michigan to Wisconsin transition

There are a number of places here in the greater Minneapolis/St. Paul area to have this done.

For you Dave, if there aren't any in Omaha, how about Kansas City?

The only GIAC dealer listed on GIAC's site in the Twin Cities area is the one in Hudson. Only one dealer is closer and that is in Kansas City. If we do a GTG in the Twin Cities area, I was thinking of getting the flash done at the same time. Thanks for the info.

You'd probably get some [more] answers from him if you'd PM him. Just a hunch. ;)

Sorry to be out, but I'm working a full time and a part time job at the moment.
GIAC for the W8 is a flash - took about 30 minutes for the whole deal.
Bob at Midwest Motor Works does a good job. Explained everything, and verified that the handheld unit worked (the first one didn't), locked the Tip in sports mode for no charge.
GIACs website has a dyno for the "pump" program v. stock, and they told me to expect another +10hp & +7 ft-lbs torque running the "race" file and 100 octane.
I'm still planning to get AWD dynoed in stock, pump, and race mode. I will post the results for all to see, including PW for the 1.8peanuT gallery.

Stewart, Thanks for the info. I'm not in a rush for the info but was just interested in your impressions. GIAC and AWE list very few dealers in this area so I like to piggyback a couple of things if I get something like that done. I don't want to send my ecu to anyone because of past problems doing that and I would prefer not to have anything soldered to my ecu.

Today I finished filling up on 100 octane, and put it back into "race" mode. Definitely feel that extra horsepower and torque, as it builds rpms fast off the line. Last time I did it was November, and I wish I could it more often!
