I'm fairly sure (do some more homework) but I think its the same trans out of the B5 S4, which is likely a lot easier to find if you check out a few audi forums. Otherwise wait till some one here, passatworld.com, or vwvortex is parting one out.

Bell housing will probably be different and specific to the W8

Yep you need a W8 6spd, which is very rare. You will also need the pedal box, gear linkage, gearbox mounts, shifter, flywheel, clocks, clutch and possibly the ecu as the coding will be different. The starter from an auto will fit.

If that's the case you may want to look at finding a doner car, something that was either totaled, or some one blew the motor in. You could likely get one for about $1000-$4000, depending on condition. The problem is you may be waiting a while for one to come up.

And it's a bucket load of hard work

I've swapped out skyline trans auto to manual and it was a damn headache....
Def need bellhousing and ECU... Can;t see that being cheap.... The main issue will be the pedal box.... Was a nightmare on a skyline (and they are fairly easy swaps to do on jap cars) sources the hydraulic unit and then fitting it all up..... Not much room in the W8 engine bay......

Waste of good money IMHO. Just buy a used Audi A6 2.7T or S4 V8.
