hi everyone, just registered altough i have been veiwing the forum for quite a while,
so down the the W8

2003, W8 4motion estate. owned from new by the Police Service Of Northern Ireland. by there traffic branch. mainly motorway work.

all my pics and stuff from a progress thread i had on another site.

few pics after i got her

wheels need a refurb

bride got to the church on time! lol

right so mot time has come. and as i never take a car to a car wash i even do the mot wash wash myself. so got the jack out, whipped the wheels off and go the scrubbing brush out.

so decided to be real fussy and got the degreaser out to take the tar off round the splash guards, fairly cleaned it up

anyone health and safety consious please look away now. lol...(couldnt find my axle stands)

anyhow, back to mot prep, was time for some of these

thought id try these febi-bilstein arms, my motor factor claims if they dont last 4 years he'll replace them.

back into the garage for stripping

struts out and new arms on.

think i'll get the waxoil out next.

got her in over the pit for a look

should dry on nicely and done all 4 wheel arches.

so i stuck the W8 up on stands and took off my wheels

took the tyres of to get the rims ready to send of for full refurb.
getting acid dipped and fully repainted

will post up pics when i get them back, really wanted to go for some 19inch helios but the mrs expecting our first child in may so money will be going else where.

so plans at the min are to refurb the bbs, and have sourced a set of new coilovers for £235. so trying to get money gathered up for them.

right so i scrapped up a few quid and got the guy at www.polishedalloys.co.uk to give them a refurb. so ya can see the state they where in above in my other pics, heres how i got them back

deffinately in alot better shape

so when i have the wheels off i thought the calipers where rather tired looking,

good cleaning and then some primer

then some colour

and finally plenty of laquer to bring on a shine

then banged them on

I see that some of the specialty chrome bits that W8s are known for are absent from this car. For example, the roof rails are black rather than the stock chrome, and the chrome trim from around the tail lights is also missing. The front W8 badge was also removed.

Do you think this was common practice when preparing these cars for police service?

BTW my mind boggles that the police used these cars in the UK. ;-)

I know the fella owed it from it came from police, he removed roof bars as the chrome all came off them, I removed the rear lights as they where all fogged up, I have them in boxes at home, as for the w8 badge I would say original badge has been replaced as they butchered original grill to fit the blue strobes.
