In case you haven't seen it. (It is in German.)

I particularly like the animation of the W8 motor.

nice video

weird to see the other options available. That 3-spoke wood steering wheel is sweet but no wheel controls. It does have a navi too.

I remember seeing a bill of sale from a uk W8 a while ago it had heated rear seats and a couple other features besides navi that the US never got

Did you notice the front grill was lacking a W8 badge?

Nice find.

Yeah, and the exhaust tips look a little different - I'm guessing this was an early production vehicle for the press fleet. It is also, I'm guessing, a BDN, not a BDP - not that I know what the difference is. Also, FYI, the source thread has variant for comparison: http://ottawa-vdubbing.com/forums/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=27026

The steering wheel is groovy... I haven't heard of the all-wood ones on anything other than the demonstrators. There are a limited number of wood/leather wheels out there, though.

The heated rear seats were/are part of the cold-weather package, Canadian style. It also included the heated windshield. All the parts are in the North American system, since "normal" Passats could be bought that way in Canada, I presume. I've never seen one, but that's what I hear from my parts master.

Back to topic...

As a German-speaker (fluent), I'd have to say that the commentary is a little underwhelming as a sales pitch, even from someone who's a big fan of the W8.

It says things like "Volkswagen does not expect to sell many of these", and so on. Some of it is very true - like that they expected their W8 customers to be those looking for the well-established features of a Passat with a little more under the hood, all in a very plain wrapper. "A preview of luxury motoring in a Volkswagen..." But come on - they could have at least given the impression that they wanted to sell some!

But, I think I'll still find the source video and save it with my other colelction of W8 stuff.

Have you checked out the other W8 videos on Youtube ?

Do a search on W8 and there are a load there. One I really like is the guy maxing his out at close to 160mph on the autobahns (I assume) - something I've done a couple of times myself in Germany.

Gives you a real appreciation of the speed our cars are capable of.
