Tell us how you make out. I read that it was more of a pain than it was worth trying to fix the switch itself. So I just bought an aftermarket latch assembly.

No question about it, the problem is the microswitch in the door latch assembly. These are exactly the same symptoms I had before I replaced mine. I tried to do just the switch, but it was such a PITA that I bought the OEM VW door latch assembly and called it good.

The job was fairly involved--basically you have to take the door down to bare metal with the door cards, windows, locks and so forth out. Life is so much better when things like the interior lights and memory seats work, though. Way worth both the time (2 hours?) and the $170 USD to replace it.
