Just got a recall notice regarding the brake switch on '03 - '05 Passats, including W8. Seems the switch can fail altogether, perhaps causing a rear ender. Or, the switch can lock on, leaving the lights burning even after the car is parked.

Well, I hope they don't have to pull the engine, refill the fluid in the HID lights, or recalibrate the high compression mudflaps. Marco

Marco, I got my letter last week. The W8 was in for wheel/tire work, so I called my service advisor to tell him about the letter, and he replied "Its already done".

It did involve repainting the headliner.

Hmm. The recall letter I just got was about cleaning the area between the firewalls (where the battery is). It is a 2002, though.

If i'm not the original owner, I'm not going to receive any notifications correct?

Incorrect, I am not the original owner and I got the notice. If you have taken your car to any VW dealer and gave them your info, you should be in the database. If not just call your local dealer and say you want to make an appointment to have your recall service done.

I don't know about VAG, but Ford checks state registration. I am the third owner on my '93 Bronco and just received a recall notice on it (something about cruise control catching on fire... hehe) - in the recall letter is said that got my info from state registration records.

That said, I have not received a recall notice for the W8 yet, I'll give it a couple weeks then call.

edit - got the brake switch recall today
