My turn
1. 2003 wagon automatic
2. 03/10/10
3. 76000
4. After printing off some helpful info off of this site ( sea foam, autoRx, electro shock therapy) and giving it to my local mechanic he was able to loosen a stuck solenoid.
5. Just had it done yesterday but seems to run a lot better.
6. No warranty but it only set me back $211. Flush, shock treatment and new oil and filter.

I called VWOA the day this happened to see if anything has been addressed yet and the lady i spoke to said that she had not heard of this issue before and there are no open campaigns. Really? WTF. Sounds like every one on this site thats had the P0011 code has called VW.


Now I'm having to make a big decision and maybe someone here could help. I've only owned this car for a month and have already done the thermostat and now maybe (if the above treatment doesn't last) cam adjusters. I absolutely love this car but i have one of three choices to make.

1. Sell now
2. Do this flush maybe every oil change and hope nothing else goes.
3. Buy an extended warranty$$ and enjoy
I'm leaning towards option 3 but what one. I can get just a power train for 4 years 48k for $2799, the Silver pkg. thats 3 years 36k for $2699, or the gold thats 2 years 24k for $2699. All of these right from my local dealer.
What extended warranties are all of you using?
What other known issues are there with these cars? I know Tstat (which is done), the P0011/12 cam issue, and Torque converter.

My fun began:

1. 2003 wagon auto

4. P0021 Dealer replaced both adjusters
5. ~4,000
6. CNA - $75.00 deductable

Car ran like a top until:
April/14/2010
45666
torque converter
Dealer replaced
CNA - $75.00 deductable

Now:
46100
P0021 again - dealer investigating


   If not what were the out of pocket costs?
   Or if you were under warranty, did you still encur
   out of pocket costs (rental car, deductible, etc...)

Oooo Oooo My turn!

Had a bad o2 sensor for a few months. Just got the cam pos sensor malfunction. Have to get a vag com reading to get codes, will try the electroshock treatment and flush and report back.

2003 sedan auto

Happened last night...

1. 2003 W8 Sedan, Tip
2. 06/22/2010 - scanned when I got her home after getting rough idle and CEL
3. 49,189 miles
4. Took in on 6/30: CarMax - Oil Change and still showing code after clearing. 7/2: VW Dealer - Replacing Bank1 Tensioner. 7/26: Got her back and running like a champ!
5. 8 miles since repair
6. Under extended warranty w/ $50 deductible + $59.04 Oil Change (was due anyway) - TOTAL OOP: $109.04 | TOTAL REPAIR COST: $3,195.59 | RENTAL CAR COVERAGE: $175

Details:
07/08/2010-
Extended warranty company (The Warranty Group) sent out an inspector on 07/07/2010 that somehow noted, "No mechanical fault present". My service advisor was out this day. On 07/08/2010 my advisor contacted the Warranty Group and explained that there is a fault present (CEL and rough idle) and that if they do not fix the issue now, that I would most likely be back within a week with the same issue or possible engine failure/damage and they would then be footing the bill for that. They opted to override the inspector in this instance and approved the dealer to move forward with repair for the cam tensioner. 3-5 days for parts to arrive (if they can get them in the US), then work begins. No estimate on how long once parts arrive yet.

07/21/2010-
Still in the shop. I was told yesterday that the engine is back in the car and they are doing the final items and testing. Hoping by Friday the 23rd to be back in my car. This Mazda loaner sure makes me miss her... I have to hand it to my CarMax service advisor. Even though they are the middle-man at this point (they attempted what they could then sent it next door to VW) they make sure to give me daily updates and make sure I get my questions answered, not to mention giving me a loaner after the 7 day period was up on the rental the warranty company provides.

07/26/2010-
Got her back, FINALLY! So far it seems they did top notch work. It feels really solid, no new rattles or shimmies. It even seems to ride smoother; granted that could be that I've been driving a Mazda Tribute for nearly 3 weeks.

Cost of my Extended Warranty, $2,100. Amount they have paid out in my two years of ownership, approx: $5950 for Radiator, Thermostat, Homelink, Passenger Seat Heater Switch, Bank 1 Cam Adjuster, rental cars.

My aftermarket warranty should cover it. I have electroshocked it in the past, as well as seafoam and running the engine diagnostics from vagcom.

Reading torque converter and something with the climatronic
I have a warranty but everytime i try to use it, they dont cover my problem
