I am new to this all. Can someone please reply to the question about putting a chip in my W8. Thanks. Maybe I asked the wrong people in the wrong place?

Ehmmm.. I think maybe people need a little more than one hour to reply to your question.

Personally I don't have any ideas...

Oh, and please just ask your question in one forum ...

I think most members read all forums anyway

(I took the liberty to delete the question in the Electronic-forum, since you already got an answer in here...)

Before you chip, I'd get an extended warranty first. That should be your #1 priority. If something happens to go wrong with the car, labor charges can be a killer. Just like any other high end German car.

A second strong vote for an extended warranty, irregardless of anything else you choose to do.
I have been running GIACs W8 file(s) since October 5, 2006 with no problems.
As you can see, I opted for the "pump" 91-93 octane performance file, "stock" mode for any warranty visits, and "race" file for 100+ octane - also the handheld switcher that plugs into the OBDII port so I can change program files literally at the push of a button.
giacusa.com has a third party dyno plot for the "pump" file - it shows a torque gain of 17.3 right at 2,750 rpm, and nice horsepower gain of 26.3, though at 6,250 rpm v. peak measured at 5,750 in stock.
It bumps the rev limiters up, and removes the top speed governor as well.
"race" file with 100 octane gains another 10hp, 7tq on top of those numbers.
Getting the Tip locked in sports mode is worth it too - you might consider doing that before chipping. I had mine done at the same time.
For me it was well worth it to chip.

Yeah, thanks for deleting. I put my question on two forums by accident.

Very good call on the extended warranty. I'm working on that now.

Do you have any recommendations for a good company, as my factory warranty has run out?

Thanks.

Call them and ask for James at ext. 222. Tell him you found out about it on Passat World. He will take good care of you.
