I recommend the Wetterauer Chip for the W8 (all years).
Cost approx. $560.00 plus $40.00 for the flash.

Gains:
Up to 290hp and 288fpt, without any other modifications.

Bonus:
Better response in first Gear, not as jumpy as in normal mode (TIP). Top Speed Limiter is gone!!!

Caution:
Don't get caught at a regular Service Visit at VW.
Avoid the P9 Service Action Notice!
Warranty might be at risk.

Supplier:
Steve´s European Automotive Inc.
Waterford, Michigan 48328
United States

I'm not affiliated with Steve's and you might find some new Suppliers that have been added.
Check the Chicago area!

Best regards,

Thanks for the info. Do you have any information on Upsolute's chips in a W8? Finding one for an '04 with a 6MT is tough.

I'll post some details from my GIAC contact when I get some news from them. I have a 04 6MT and it is tough...I have to go back in to get more info uploaded to send to GIAC...they are supposed to be working on something for the 6MT.

I sent GIAC my ecu PN and they said no luck for a '04 6MT. If they are having secind thoughts that would be great. PLEASE keep us posted on any news.

I contacted Steve about getting a Wett chip and he said there is no problem for a '04 6MT. Only I'm not near Michigan and I don't want to loose my car for a week.

I like the idea of a chip just for the better gas milage. However, I dont think I would want to lose the rev limiter, I have come up on that pretty fast a couple of times, seems like a good safety net.

However some more options for the 6MT's would be nice.

Careful there... the rev limiter doesn't go away. The first-gear soft limiter that starts at about 5000 rpm does, though... according to what's been posted before.

The top speed limiter does go away, though.

I still haven't seen any signs of GIAC doing the MT6 yet(07D906018AL?), but they do now list the 07D906018C.
I'm guessing the "C" is for european spec W8s, as it lists these modes:
95 to 98 RON,
Stock,
108 RON,
Valet,
and Kill

In the past I have talked to the Upsolute rep in the US.
I think he is the distrubutor listed in NC - their website doesn't specify ECU code numbers or transmission type(s).

GIAC should have a chip for your 6MT ECU.
