I have the GIAC tip chip.

It changes the time between each shift and makes each shift slightly harsher. I really like it and think it makes a bigger difference than the engine chip

not sure about the US vs. euro though ... I am in the US

sorry to interrupt, just looking for a quick answer... when you say "recoding", do you mean you have an aftermarket chip and you can select a few driving modes? Or is it a stock chip and you're able to modify the mode via vag-com?

thanks

the claim is that it reduces shift times from 1 second to 0.2 seconds

I have no way of verifying this

This being an older thread, i would like to find out what chip brand has proved to work very well currently? I have an '03 6 speed. I guess Unitronic, Upsolute and GIAC are the main players. Does any one of them stand out? Pros and cons would be much appreciated.

I wouldn't do GIAC. The tuning will give you very minimal gains for around the $500 range, at least that's how much it was the last time I looked into it. Unless someone here has theirs GIAC tuned and can correct me, but that was from the horse's mouth. I have not heard of the other two you mentioned.

Are there other brands i'm missing? I saw Wetterauer, but looked like folks were saying to avoid them.

I have Unitronic. In fact they used my car to set up their chip. GIAC does not have a chip for manual W8s.

Make sure the chipping company has used you ECU part number.

Thanks, you have pm. In the last 3+ decades i've owned some very obscure daily drivers, but never have i had a car that's so damn difficult to get info on, lol! At least someone said "no don't buy that one". Now i know others out there can share their experience with different chip brands. My TR6 was way easier to get info about.
