Hello,

I was looking for a new W8 engine and found this from ebay:

New VW OEM Complete W8 Passat 4.0L BDP Engine Head Block Auto Trans '02-04

I already asked whether the seller (https://cascadegerman.com/) would ship it to Finland, but then found out that putting BDP engine into european W8 Passat could be problematic... another thing is finnish (goddamn greedy) goverment's import fees and 24% VAT when buying auto parts from outside EU area

Anyway, the engine looks sweet and the price is nice (4500$):

Cheers,
++ben

Can anyone confirm the seller's assurances that the engine would work in a manual transmission car? I thought I heard a story that the actual blocks were different (!) between the manual and automatic transmission cars.

the only thing that you should have to do is remove the flex plate for the torque convertor, and then make sure the correct flywheel is bolted up. I'm also assuming the either a manual ECU is available, or the auto ECU would have to be reflashed to reflect the manual trans.

The parts catalog shows no difference between automatic/manual for the base engine (long block).

DMC would be able to answer for sure, he's put engines from auto cars into his with a manual box. I think our engine code differs to yours though, ours is BDN

The engine for the auto transmission has the flex plate and a bushing in the end of the crank shaft that is not needed with manual transmission. Also, there is little difference between wirings: tiptronic needs couple of wires more. Afaik, there shouldn't be other differences.

The seller had two engines - one for manual transmission and one for tiptronic - and both are sold now.

Just curious: did some of our members buy one? If you did, how do you like the new engine?
