Very good article Fitzski, I just wondered if the procedure would be the same on the VR6 engine, perhaps they used the same size of filter.

I do believe the filter cross references to several VAG engines - the 2.8 VR6 among them.

Very nice write up.
Here is a little update from the US.
ECS tuning is selling a Oil Change Kit for the W8, all you need is your tools:

ECS Tuning Oil Service Kit with ECS Magnectic Drain Plug ES#8119
Everything you need to perform a oil change service on you V/W or Audi
W83KKTWMDP $88.99
Oil change kit

To all my friends, yes I'm back online and my W8 is still running strong.

Best regards,

FS

I don't think you're missing out on much by not having the oil level sensor - I always assumed that it was mostly for people who were on the Long Life service interval and weren't much in the habit of checking their oil level...

One point possibly in favour of an oil level alarm is that it provides an advance warning of a more critical impending oil pressure decrease due to loss of pump suction .... which occurs if a rock/etc cracks the sump and creates an oil hemorrhage: not all lower trays are either present, nor in good shape ... nor impervious to all curbs ...
