Yep, this is the dealer that sold it new and has always done the work on it. Theyve also worked on a few of the other ones here in the metroplex, and the mechanic that is working on it is the one that usually does the w8's when they come in. unfortunatly he wasnt there when the other guy did all of the timing

I always winder how often our problems are due to the techs and not the car itself.

I don't think that you should blame it on the engine, when you do the timing on any engine you have to be very careful
That same technician would properly install the wheels backwards too

I wasnt blaming the engine... and i know what it is to time an engine. I think the mech was just in a hurry to get the car out of his bay, and move on. This engine is especially difficult to time and you have to pay close attention to it, but hes a young guy and now he knows to not get in a hurry (esp with a w). Ill ask them when i pick the car up this week if its done about the bad actuator and ge t a pic if they still have it

If it was anything like mine, the only outward sign was a small crescent shaped hole in one of the screens.
They replaced several other parts as well, but I don't know if they were damaged, per se, or just replaced as SOP.

Wow, this problem can really hurt our pocket if we don't have an extended warranty, since the labor to take it apart & the parts from Germany. Hopefully you got yours fixed correctly.

By the way, Stew, how's yours? Everything fixed now with no problem?

t0kie, I have put a little over 1,000 miles on it since the repair, and it seems to be doing just fine.
Westside VW keeps the parts in stock - my hold up was caused by their only having one subframe cart.
The second cart arrived from Germany the day I picked my car up!

As a side note, I just replaced my brake fluid, power steering fluid, and the gear oil in all three differentials.
Fuel filter, Tiptronic filter/fluid and coolant before too long as well.
If something fails, it won't be for lack of maintenance.
