Well, we are finally getting to enjoy our Spring here in the lovely City of Roses, Portland OR! And not a day too soon!

Clear skies, temp in the mid-70s, and the air was right for drinking. Believe it or not today was my first DIY oil change on the ole' W8. I am a semi-lazy person when it comes to this nowadays, for in the past i have spent many a day swapping out oil in Jeep Wagoneers, some of which required only ADDING additional oil each and every week of ownership! :P So it was a good day to grease up the knuckles again. I'll save the write-up part as it has been accomplished before (thanks fitzski! ). Just fun pics today, kids.

Anyone want 9 quarts of goo? Betcha won't find sludge. :hmmm:

A bit dirty, eh?
Compare:

I went with Amsoil European Car Formula because, well, I have a European car.

9 quarts = $76.41................... Goob!

And I also Seafoamed the engine through the exhaust manifold vacuum intake using deus' Black Seafoam Apparatus (patent pending). Worked like a charm. Royalty in the mail, deus.

Smoke picture to prove it:

It took a whole can in 10 minutes, and then proceeded to smoke like Chong for the next 20 minutes on the freeway. Felt like I was back in the old Wagoneer....
Eventually it cleared up just enough not to get pulled over on I-205.

What a great day! I love how an oil change adds back that 20-30 HP you KNOW has been missing! :P:thumbup:

I hope you all have a good week. :)

Jeremy,

You're welcome.
Have you ever Seafoamed before?

I have not.

Sounds painful.

Seriously, what does that entail?

Very easy. First, go here.
I hooked up the vacuum tube to the intake manifold vacuum nipple (ha ha...nipple) located at the front of the manifold, driver's side, right about where the side manifold bolts onto the center mani. Then let 'er rip. Took about 10 minutes to go through the whole can. I didn't have to rev the engine at all. Just let it suck up slowly.
Let the car sit for about 5-10 minutes with the engine OFF. Then start the car and rev it up or drive around for around 20 minutes. There will be A LOT of white smoke. No...I mean A LOTTTTTT of white smoke! Don't worry about this. Just warn your neighbors!

The best improvement is a throttling smoothness. Seems like the slight hesitation/vibration I had at idle has gone away. Oh, I did throw a CEL, which didn't surprise me. I had it on all day Sunday, but it was gone Monday morning. Didn't even VAG-COM it.

Try it and let me know what u think.

Mike

so, you only hooked it up to one nipple, instead of the two-lead system described in the PW write up?

I hope you don't get a Cel light soon with dirty oil. That dirty oil is also Amsoil Oil or another brand?

Yeah, I just did the front hose connection. I shoulda read the write-up more thoroughly... Do you know where the second hose connection lives? I'm thinking its right next to the TB, but....

Any info is much appreciated.
