Just introducing myself.

I picked up a 2002 black/black sedan from Owasco's in Oshawa in December 2006. 104k km's.

The car has a few cosmetic and mechanical odds and ends that need attending to - it certainly isn't clean like the cars I see here!

I'm somewhat torn as to what to do with the car. As it sits it is an awesome Q-ship - police just don't seem to see the car.

However, the motor begs to be freed up and heard! There's got to be 30-50 hp with intake/exhaust/chip. [IMG]smileys/smiley2.gif" align="middle" />

Wuhoo! Two in Ottawa!

Congrats on the purchase, Craig. Is this your first VW?

Be sure to check out Ottawa V-Dubbing:

I'm fitzski there as well; great bunch of guys, and really knowledgeable.

Welcome to the club!

Thanks Fitzski

Yup, this is my first.

Funny, when I first saw your id I thought of Fritz, and I see on ottawa-vdubbing that you know the same Fritz! (McKellar)

I used to come out to MCO events once in a while with a red 944.

I'm definitely taking the W8 to MCO's winter events - if we ever have enough snow!

Where do you get your car serviced?

That's great Craig - yep, Fritz is a good friend - tho, I know him from mountain biking more than car-stuff. I did get out to a few of the Solo II events this year (at SBP), and I was fortunate to get in the passenger seat for a lap. Spectacular!! Fritz knows how to hustle that car!!

What winter events does the MCO run? Winter rallies?

You may have also noticed at OVD, after a couple of visits this past summer, they are trying to setup a club track day at the new Calabogie track, a really spectacular venue, if you've not seen it already.

As for service on the W8, my car is still under full warranty, and then CPO warranty, to 2009/120,000km - so it goes to the dealer if anything comes up. Best dealer in town - by FAR - is Hunt Club VW (Bank St, just south of HC). I live in Carp, so it's hardly convenient, but it's the best place to go.

For independent shops, I would recommend Advanced Autoworks, on Bentley Ave (Hunt Club/Merivale area). Well established VW/Audi specialist with a great reputation, including a LOT of OVD members.

Have you investigated extended warranty coverage for your W8? It might be worth looking into - it's usually the first thing mentioned when anybody asks about buying a used W8. Not because they are prone to problems, more so that even a seemingly minor thing can be an expensive repair, due to the tight packaging and comparative rarity and cost of W8-specific parts.

Thanks for the info! Much appreciated.

I have the 2yr 40k km CPO warranty - going to four years and 80k km was like $4000 so I passed.

Good stuff, Craig.

Wow - SnowX would be pretty wicked! Plus, the speedway is right around the corner from me... I'll have to keep an eye on the calendar and come out and see an event (if we ever get some snow... :-( )
