Since a lot of weeks I had some hissing noises. Always when I started the engine in a cold state I could hear it. Later on the noise ceased and when the engine was on higher rotations it came back.

First I guessed the long driving belt in front of the engine for all the additional things like dynamo and so on. But I wasn't sure and so I took the car to my local VW dealer last week. First they guessed the water pump.

But then they found the reason: It was the turnbuckle for the driving belt. It's bedded on a roller bearing and this bearing wasn't ok.
Now I have the car back in my hands to enjoy the sound without any problems.

Hope, my used car guarantee will take over the cost for it.

Not sure... Could have been the serpentine belt tensioner pulley or idler (roller) pulleys.

"hissing" is an odd word to describe a belt or pulley related noise.

Yeh it's more like a 'whine' noise, likely the bearing are gone in the pulley.

Bump.

Would anybody have a clue as to what could be he cause for a 'whine' noise coming from the engine? The noise would increase in noise as the engine is revved. The same as the bearing gone in a pulley. Most noticeable from the passenger side of engine. (Right-Hand Drive Car).

Thanks.
