does anyone else have little creaking noises that seem to come from the center of the dash like behind the radio and climatronic ? they are easily heard in my car when idleing in park with the radio off. i hear them clearly coming out of the the 2 center air vents. i know the car has that automatic adjusting vent doohicky system...but does it make noise all the time ? i tried the search feature but found no clear answers on here. i did see the post a few down from here about the creaking and groaning of the door and one person mentioned it coming from their dash but in cold weather...it is not cold and i have the noise all the time even with the engine off and the key in the position just before ingnition.

I think most of our cars (and probably B5s in general) have this issue. Some cars are worse than others. Mine was pretty noticeable when new to me, but has quieted down considerably since then, or I've just gotten used to it.

No kidding, but a good thump on the dash above the center vents has made mine stop creaking more than once... I'm sure there's a more elegant solution, but not so expedient.

Following unbearable and annoying 'creaks and groans', I had my complete dashboard replaced under warranty awhile ago. Broken   fixing lugs were the problem. Been quiet as a mouse ever since!

Also, don't forget the airvent shutters open and close according to temps set. These make a slight noise.

I thought I had creaking noises the other day as well. I turned down the tunes to listen...

...and I figured it out.

...it was my fat ass pushing the side of the leather seat against the center console.

Hi,

I jammed a piece of wood inside the cavity that is between the Radio consul and the Plastic cover that expands from the Center/Shifter consul on the driver side. It worked, can see it and the noise is gone.
Other noise sources might be:
1)the Sunroof, close the cover.
2)empty passenger seat, readjust/reposition it
3)head rests front and back might have loose plastic in them, remove it
4)Center Arm rest when extended, reposition it
5) The Door Panels, as explained above!
