I am looking to buy a "Funk" or blank push (i.e. it looks like the filler)dash switch. Not exactly sure what I will use it for at the moment. Funk will mostly likely be for my sub or exhaust cutouts. The blank switch will be for the cutouts or some other fun option that I don't want to be displayed

You should really do some research about the exhaust cut outs before you commit to buying everything. The switch is not just plug-n-play with cutouts, it takes a good amount of circuitry skills to figure out. And there's really no good place for cutouts, you will make a sacrifice somewhere to make them work. Just want to give you a warning.

I'm keen to get a "FUNK" switch myself. They're getting hard to come by. In the meantime, I settled for a "Taxi" switch.

My plan was to use it to control the ground wire to the handbrake from my new head unit, but this proved not to be necessary. So, mostly I just want it to look cool until I come up with a better idea. :-)

Thanks for the tip. If I decide to go that route I will research it more.

On a related note, are there wires already run in the harness for the 6th switch or were they not included because VW didn't plan on putting anything there?

There's no harness for switch #6. It's all DIY.

My "FUNK" switch came with a harness. I have no idea what I'll use it for, yet.

I should have been more clear. There's a wiring block that attaches to the switch body itself and gives you a place to attach the leads, but there isn't anything wired to the car that is ready to connect up. In my case, the "Taxi" switch has 4 leads, which I assume are illumination +/- and two wires for whatever load the switch is connected to.

Ok. I want to bump this up. I am willing to pay $75 for a (functional) funk switch or taxi switch.

Correct, that switch won't fit our cars, that's for an A4.

You can see mine in the lower right of this picture. Not the completely different shape.

Originally it turns on all overhead lights inside the car. Used in taxi's so when people are getting in and out the whole interior is lit.

What I mean is when it is in the off position at night will it be illuminated along with the dash lights and other switches.

If you wire it right, it will be lit just as the other switches are, amber when it's "on" and red if the dash lights are on and it's off.

Okay, that being said, I have a "FUNK" switch with pigtail and wires that I want to trade for the "TAXI" switch (must have pigtail and wires) that is in like new condition.

Help me find a "TAXI" switch and I'll help you find my "FUNK" switch.

I have 2 x taxi switches with pigtails incoming. Brand new. Probably 2 weeks away yet though.

Will definitely swap one for a funk switch!

I need the funk! (For my dying w8)

Consider that a done deal if you can wait a few weeks.

I've got one, going to Ken, in trade for a Taxi switch.

You gotta keep lookin' on Passat World, that's really the only place to find it........and you have to have good timing to find it and buy it before someone else does.........and you have to be willing to pay for it, I paid $75 for mine.

I am so lucky that you have a fetish of having OEM parts that function properly and make sense with your car

Hey now, if it were the 1970's I could use that FUNK switch for a disco mirror ball hanging from my headliner.

I have a question for anyone with a "FUNK" switch. Does it behave like the defroster button in that it will default back to off when the car is turned off? I just installed my "TAXI" switch and unless I turn it off it will stay on since it is a double position switch like the hazards.

No, it is an on/off switch, it latches into position and stays there until you "unlatch" it. Sounds just like the taxi switch.

Sean, you have your cut outs run a close cycle when the car is first started, but what happens if you have left your "FUNK" switch on when you shut off your car and then turn it?

If the funk switch is left on, or the switch is "turned on" with the car off, then the cut outs will run an open cycle when the car is turned on.

You could easily add a relay that would interrupt current when the key is off.

So if the switch is on then whatever is hooked to it would turn on and off with the key.

I was thinking about that but the issue is that these switches have two different positions, on and off, like a pen.

If I can take the guts out of another switch and modify it to work with the 6th dash switch then I think I will be able to accomplish what I am looking for.

If you power the switch by a switch source, then it will turn "off" when the car is off. You could likely remove the part that latches it "on" so it becomes momentary.
